John Wall has not played a game in the NBA since January 13, 2023, and right now it is not clear that he will play another at some point. But, as he has acknowledged, it will not be for lack of desire. The point guard has confessed that he would like to have one last chance in the league as a farewell, admitting that he would like to be the one to decide when to end his career.
«It would mean a lot to me. I would like to finish my career however I want. “If I play my last game, I want to leave the court in my own way.”
Wall’s career has been very marked by injuries, as would his retirement if he does not play again. An abdominal distension marked the beginning of the end of his time with the Clippers, with whom he was averaging 11.4 points and 5.2 assists, which would be a sadly consistent ending to what has been the last stage of his career. Something John has admitted he thinks about often.
«You do everything you can to take care of yourself, but in the end injuries are part of basketball. “I think about it a lot and sometimes it’s frustrating, but I’ve been able to enjoy the time I’ve had.”
Career as a commentator?
Wall made these comments after debuting as a commentator at a G League event, opening the door for this to be his imminent professional future. As he stated jokingly, the idea came to him because at home he is always told to keep quiet while he is watching games with his children and friends, and the idea of continuing to be linked to the sport he loves seems to excite him.
«I can improve a lot. I’m learning, but in the end it’s talking about basketball, which is something I love to do. “It’s what I do when I’m at home with my friends and my children.”
