Anaheim Ducks Welcome Hall of Fame Coach Joel Quenneville

The Anaheim Ducks have hired Joel Quenneville as their new head coach, the franchise announced today. Quenneville, a three-time Stanley Cup winner with 25 years of NHL coaching experience, becomes the 12th head coach in Ducks history.

Quenneville’s Impressive Resume

“Today is a great day for the Anaheim Ducks,” said General Manager Pat Verbeek. “Joel is a proven winner and one of the top coaches in NHL history. We believe this is a major step forward in our process of being a perennial playoff contender.”

Quenneville has an impressive resume, guiding teams to three Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013, and 2015 with the Chicago Blackhawks. He is one of only 11 head coaches in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup three times and the only one to do so in the salary cap era. Throughout his career, he has led his teams to an overall record of 969-572-77-150 (.612%) and has won the NHL Jack Adams Award as the Coach of the Year in 1999-00.

“I’m excited to join the Anaheim Ducks. This is the organization I wanted to restart my career with and am truly grateful for this opportunity. The Ducks have incredible ownership, management, and passionate fans. In nearly four years away from the game, I have learned from my prior mistakes and realized it will be actions over words that demonstrate my commitment to being a better leader,” Quenneville said in a statement.

Ducks’ Thorough Vetting Process

The Ducks conducted a comprehensive review of Quenneville’s tenure with the Blackhawks, including interviews with dozens of individuals, to ensure his involvement in the turbulence that took place. The NHL cleared Quenneville to seek employment in July 2022, and the Ducks’ investigation found that Quenneville was not fully aware of the severity of the situation at the time.
