In a remarkable turn of events, football legend George Burley has revealed he has been battling cancer. Burley, a former Ipswich Town player and manager, shared the news that he has received the all-clear after a long battle with the disease.

Reflecting on his journey, Burley said, “It’s been a long road, it didn’t happen overnight. I had to persevere to finally get diagnosed. But I’ve been very lucky with the amount of support I’ve had, especially from my family.”

Burley noted that a severe injury he battled as a young player helped him cope with his concerns and fears for the future after being diagnosed with cancer. He credited his family and friends for their unwavering support and described his recovery as a testament to their love and encouragement.

He also highlighted the importance of keeping a positive mindset and staying active during treatment, revealing that he tried to go to the gym, play golf, and attend Portman Road home games whenever possible.

As he looks to the future, Burley is enjoying the little things in life, such as playing golf and having meals out with family and friends. He also expressed his desire to see Ipswich Town return to the Premier League.

He joked about missing out on Ed Sheeran’s upcoming gigs at Portman Road, despite his daughter’s efforts to secure tickets, and quipped that he could listen to the concerts from his garden.
