International journalism seminar during the CIPA awards ceremony

According to the journalistic association, the purpose of the academic event will be to share knowledge, as well as to strengthen the understanding, implications and challenges of the work of the communicator and journalist in relation to governance and democracy.

In addition, it is important to understand the challenges that communications professionals face in an increasingly interconnected world, which is also polarized by the ways in which communication is handled.

The first part of the International Seminar on Public Communication, Journalism and Democracy of the Circle of Journalists and Social Communicators of Antioquia -CIPA- will take place on Tuesday, August 13 in the Aula Magna of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana -UPB-, Laureles campus.

The second day of the academic event will take place on Wednesday, August 14, in the auditorium of the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, block 2, 8th floor. Also on that day, in the same space, but in the afternoon, the event will close with the ceremony to present the CIPA Awards for Journalistic Excellence, in its 34th edition.

The event will feature participation in the academic agenda of some of the universities in Antioquia that have a communications faculty or journalism or related programs; among them, UPB, Cooperativa de Colombia and Eafit.

CIPA Excellence in Journalism Award

This year, as usual, awards will be given in the categories of university journalism, cultural journalism, political journalism, community journalism, ecological journalism, sports journalism, tourism journalism, gender equality, investigative journalism and photojournalism; in addition to the special categories for a lifetime achievement, journalist-writer and the awards for Economic Journalism, Humberto López López, and Journalistic Ethics, JuliÔn Pérez Medina.

For 33 years, the Circle of Journalists and Social Communicators of Antioquia – CIPA – has awarded the Prize for Journalistic Excellence in different categories, one of them for university journalism.

For this year’s edition, the association received 46 applications, which are in the process of being evaluated by the jury. According to the conditions of the call, those categories in which there are no submitted works or only one application will be declared void. It is also clarified that the four special categories are chosen by the Board of Directors of the Circle of Journalists and Social Communicators of Antioquia -CIPA-.
