Sinner Powers to Indian Wells Final, Awaits Alcaraz or Medvedev
World number two Jannik Sinner advanced to his first Indian Wells Masters 1000 final, defeating Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-4 on Saturday. The 24-year-ancient Italian displayed a commanding performance, securing his place in the championship match.
Dominant Performance Against Zverev
Sinner broke Zverev’s serve early in the first set, taking a 3-2 lead and then again at 5-2, ultimately closing out the set. He maintained control throughout the match, saving the only break point he faced.
“It was a great performance – very solid from the back of the court. I tried to go for shots and that felt like one of the keys,”
Jannik Sinner
In the second set, Zverev briefly challenged, but Sinner secured a crucial break to gain the advantage and close out the match in one hour and 23 minutes.
Final Opponent: Alcaraz or Medvedev
Sinner will face either top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz or Daniil Medvedev in Sunday’s final. Medvedev ended Alcaraz’s perfect 2026 season and 16-match winning streak with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory in the other semi-final.
“The first set was a super high level from me and he started to gain a grip in the second,” Medvedev said. “I managed to stay in there and play good in crucial points. I’m happy that I was able to show the world that I’m still a good tennis player.”
Daniil Medvedev
Medvedev, a former US Open champion, has won nine consecutive matches, including the Dubai Tennis Championship last month. Sinner has won 21 of his 24 titles on hard courts.
Looking Ahead
Sinner is aiming to become only the third man – after Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic – to capture all six ATP Masters 1000 hard-court titles.
