Incheon City fell short of expectations by only adding three gold medals. The medal march, which is only at 74% of the goal, is slowing toward the latter half of the competition.
As of 6 PM on the 15th, the 5th day of the 105th National Sports Festival, Incheon City added 3 gold medals and won 148 medals, including 33 gold medals, 55 silver medals, and 60 bronze medals. This is far short of Incheon City’s goal of a total of 200 medals.
Incheon’s first gold medal came in track and field. In the women’s college track and field 400m relay, Han-song Kim, Jin-young Kim, Young-hoon An, and Su-young Lee (Inha University) won the gold medal with a time of 47.68 seconds. Young-Hoon Ahn won two gold medals, including the 100m title (12.34 seconds).
In the singles final of the women’s university tennis tournament, Kim Yun-ah (Incheon National University) won by easily defeating Yoon Seon-woo (Seoul Korea National Sport University) 2-0 and won the tournament for the second time in a row.
In addition, wrestling Lee Yoo-shin (Incheon Physical Education High School) won the gold medal by defeating Lee Jae-yoon (Chungbuk Physical Education High School) by technical fall in the men’s high school Greco-Roman 60kg final.
However, Incheon suffered a series of losses in most sports, including basketball, soft tennis, and archery team competition, and had difficulty securing a medal.
Inseong Girls’ High School, the girls’ high school basketball division, lost 64 to 66 to Gwangju Supia Girls’ High School in the quarterfinals, and Incheon City Sports Council, the men’s soft tennis division, was eliminated from the preliminaries after losing to Eumseong County Office in North Chungcheong Province in the team match. Incheon High School in the male high school division and Hagik Girls’ High School in the female high school division also failed to advance to the semifinals, losing to Eumseong High School in North Chungcheong Province and Myeonggok High School in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, respectively.
Incheon City Hall, the women’s general division in which Jeon Hoon-young, the star of 10 consecutive women’s archery team wins at the last Paris Olympics, also lost to Yecheon County Office, Gyeongsangbuk-do, had to be content with a bronze medal.
