Jānis Timma, a Latvian basketball player, was found dead in his home in Moscow. He is 32 years old. Timma has played for more than a dozen teams in his career, debuting for ASK Riga in 2008, including Zenit St. Petersburg, Baskonia (Spain), Olympiacos (Greece), Lakeland Magic (an NBA G League team in Florida) and last year 2024, in Monbus Obradoiro of Liga ACB in Spain, as well as the Latvian national team. After Monbus Obradoiro was relegated last season, the Latvian basketball player moved to Russia and played in a 3×3 team.

Local authorities believe his death was a suicide; on the cell phone, which was found by his side, a message was found sent by his ex-wife, the famous Ukrainian singer and actress Anna Sedokova. Russian agency REN TV reported that next to her body was a “note” that said “call Anna”. The basketball player married the famous Ukrainian singer and model, the couple got married in 2020, troubled relationship: according to the singer, they broke up and got back “20 times”. The divorce was made official on December 9. Timma’s Instagram followers said the players shared their feelings on social media. Among the things he posted, he emphasized Sedokova’s priority over money. He has previously shown suicidal thoughts, as reported by Basketnews.
