Gutierrez’s Unforgettable Hockey Memories and Leadership Journey

Early Hockey Passion

Dominic Gutierrez, a lifelong fan of Sergei Fedorov, cherishes a particular moment from his youth. As a young defenseman, around 7 or 8 years old, he was invited to participate in an intermission shootout during a game between the Detroit Red Wings and San Jose Sharks at the iconic Joe Louis Arena.

Intermission Shootout Highlight

“My mom still has the video,” Gutierrez recalled with a smile. “I scored and rode my stick to center ice.” This moment remains a treasured memory, showcasing his early passion for the sport.

Meeting Hockey Legends

In his office at the Dort Financial Center, Gutierrez proudly displays a photo of Steve Yzerman hoisting the Stanley Cup. His role in the hockey world has allowed him to meet the legendary player in person.

First Encounter with Yzerman

“I’ll never forget the first time I saw him,” Gutierrez remembered. “I was holding the door in the lobby to walk up to the media suite. He said, ‘Thank you.’ I was just staring at him, like, ‘I don’t know what to say.’” This encounter highlights the awe and respect Gutierrez holds for the sport’s greats.

Leadership and Heritage

Gutierrez’s diverse heritage, with both Filipino and Hispanic roots on his father’s side, has enriched his leadership skills. His paternal grandmother moved to the United States to complete her Ph.D., and his mother, Kim, graduated from Grand Blanc High School and works in the insurance industry.

Enhancing Skills Through Experiences

Gutierrez’s life experiences have significantly enhanced his abilities as a leader in hockey and beyond. His diverse background and personal encounters with hockey legends have shaped his approach to the game and his professional life.
