The Government of Antioquia has announced a proposal that seeks to alleviate the financial crisis of the University of Antioquia, which will be discussed in Bogotá together with the Ministry of Education. The strategy includes a unique contribution from the Government, conditional on the reduction of the deficit by the University.
The Secretary of Education, Mauricio Alviar Ramírez, explained that the Government would contribute one third of what the University manages to reduce its deficit. “If the University reduces its deficit by 100 pesos, the Government would contribute 33 pesos,” said Alviar.
In addition, the Government insists that the austerity plan must include an increase in the teaching hours of regular professors, who currently dedicate only 14% of their time to this activity. It is expected that with these measures, the number of contracted teaching hours will be reduced.
