De’Anthony Melton will not play again this season. The Golden State Warriors have announced that the player will have to undergo surgery due to his anterior cruciate ligament injury, which will prevent him from being available until 25-26 ay.
Although the injury didn’t necessarily seem that serious as it was a sprain and not a torn ligament, tests carried out determined that it is best for Melton to undergo surgery. The Warriors are thus left without a player who had been decisive for his impact on both sides of the pitch and who Kerr even counted on as a starter.
“He’s disappointed, but he knows it’s the right decision,” commented the coach. «You can’t take a partial cruciate tear as nonsense and believe that it will heal on its own while you continue to play. “This is the right decision and we know he will be ready again.”
Will there be a replacement?
Golden State can now request the Disabled Player Option equal to half of Melton’s salary, or 6.4 million. However, since they are only $534,000 under the cap, they won’t be able to use it until they release their salaries via a transfer.
