Former US Open winner Graeme McDowell has been suspended from a LIV Golf tournament after testing positive for a banned substance.
The 45-year-old will miss the next tournament in LIFE Golf planned in West Virginia and fined $125,000.
Graeme McDowell explained that he used a generic over-the-counter nasal decongestant (Vicks) before the LIV tournament in Nashville in June because he had trouble sleeping.
The Northern Irishman who beat Gregory Havret in one breath during the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach explained that he did not believe that this product contained a prohibited substance, that he regretted being negligent and that he accepted the penalty.
But he also took the opportunity in his press release to criticize the PGA Tour, believing that LIV Golf makes more effort in terms of controls than other circuits. ” LIV Golf has strengthened its testing policy, unlike other circuits, and this makes the situation more complicated for me.”
