Giorgia Stanglin Triumphs at Astana’s Grand Slam Judo Tournament
Italian Sensation Claims First Grand Slam Medal in -70 kg Category
Astana, Kazakhstan – Italian judoka Giorgia Stanglin (CS Carabinieri) has made history by winning gold in the under 70 kg category at the Astana Grand Slam. In an impressive display of skill and determination, Stanglin overcame top competitors to secure her first-ever Grand Slam medal in this weight class.
Stanglin’s Incredible Journey to the Top
Stanglin’s victory was nothing short of impressive, as she defeated Hyemmi Kim, Aqulina Chayeb, and Luana Carvalho to reach the semifinals. There, she met Serafima Moscalu, whom she defeated to advance to the final. In the championship bout, Stanglin faced Yingying Feng of China. In a thrilling contest, Stanglin managed to immobilize her opponent early in the match, ultimately securing the victory.

Italian Desire for more Success
While Stanglin stole the spotlight, another Italian judoka, Martina Esposito, also made waves in the same category, earning fifth place. Esposito proved her mettle by overcoming Anastassiya Morozova, Lucie Jarrot, and Dena Pohl before falling to eventual champion Yingying Feng.
Other Notable Performances
- Manuel Parlas (Fiamme Oro) reached fifth position in the -81 kg category, defeating Batsugar Gansukh and Luan Almeida before succumbing to Abylaikhan Zhubanazar in the final.
- Bright Maddaloni Nosa (blue) placed seventh in the -81 kg category, defeating Valentin Houinato and Azat Kumisbay before losing to Olympic bronze medalist Joonhwan Lee.
- Leonardo Valeriani (Yellow flames) and Fabrizio Esposito (Blue flames) both put on strong showings in the -73 kg category, with Valeriani reaching the third round and Esposito falling to Asadbek Norbutaev.
