Following a challenging 31-33 loss in Hamburg on Wednesday, the German national team demonstrated a significant resurgence in Aabenraa, securing a 29-26 victory over Denmark. Coach Markus Gaugisch emphasized the importance of this win, noting it as a crucial reward for the team’s hard work and a positive stepping stone into the remainder of their preparations for the World Cup.
“Of course that feels good because it is also a reward for the team. We have come into play hard and worked out of it ourselves,” Gaugisch stated. “We are now going apart with a positive feeling.”
“We need more bile and more depth in the back,” Gaugisch added.
While the team showcased promising signs, particularly in attack, highlighted by Viola Leuchter’s seven goals and Alina Grijseels’ seven goals, persistent errors and a lack of concentration during portions of the match presented challenges. Goalkeeper Katharina Filter, however, proved to be a reliable force, making numerous crucial saves.
Many Mistakes and Lack of Concentration in the German Game
In front of a crowd of 2,700 spectators, Leuchter and Grijseels emerged as the leading scorers for Germany. Despite the victory, the team’s performance wasn’t flawless, with visible lapses in concentration and avoidable errors that need addressing.
Increase After the Change
The second half marked a dramatic shift in momentum for Germany. The team rebounded with renewed vigor, ultimately securing a two-goal lead in the final minutes. “It is mega that we did it. We worked on that for a long time. So it is good that it worked today,” declared Leuchter.
