Georgia Hunter Bell Claims World Indoor 1500m Title

Georgia Hunter Bell secured the gold medal in the women’s 1500m at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Kujawy Pomorze 26.

Tactical Race in Toruń

The race unfolded with a dramatic shift in momentum as Birke Haylom initially surged ahead, establishing a significant lead of 3.3 seconds at the 800m mark. Although, Hunter Bell and Australia’s Jessica Hull demonstrated remarkable resilience, steadily closing the gap on Haylom throughout the second half of the race.

Final Lap Showdown

Hunter Bell and Hull overtook Haylom just after the bell signaled the final lap, setting up a thrilling sprint to the finish.

Bell Holds Off Hull for Gold

Hunter Bell ultimately prevailed, crossing the finish line in a world-leading time of 3:58.53. Jessica Hull claimed silver with an Oceanian indoor record of 3:59.45, having earned bronze in the 3000m just 24 hours prior. USA’s Nikki Hiltz secured the bronze medal in an indoor personal best of 3:59.68, narrowly edging out European indoor champion Agathe Guillemot in a close finish.

“I’m happy to get through but me and Jess [Hull] were saying at the finish that it was not a fun way to run a 1500m. I felt like I was jogging and then I looked at the clock and realised I was actually jogging so something bad is going to happen.”
