Gavi lasted just over 20 minutes on the field at Jose Zorrilla. The Barcelona midfielder was struck by an opponent and remained on the ground for a while, clutching his knee in pain. The National Team’s medical staff conducted tests to assess the extent of the injury. Despite being allowed to continue playing, Gavi hurt his right knee again while trying to control the ball. Initial examinations suggest a potentially serious injury, raising concerns about his cruciate ligament.
If it is confirmed that Gavi has torn his cruciate ligament in his right knee, he will likely miss the remainder of the season as well as important upcoming events such as the Eurocup and the Olympic Games next summer.
Time of Injury
The midfielder had to leave the field during the second half of the match against Georgia, visibly in pain. While awaiting definitive medical confirmation, Barcelona is understandably worried about Gavi’s condition. Sancet replaced him on the field.
Gavi retired injured against Georgia.
Interestingly, Gavi was one of only two players who started both the match against Cyprus and the current match. Luis de la Fuente, the coach, commented on Gavi’s workload before the game, stating, “He is hyperactive, he never stops. That’s why he plays so much and performs so well. Good players never rest. He is physically gifted.”
