Badminton Tournament Serves Up Support for Global Relief Effort

Garden City High School students recently combined athletic competition with charitable giving, hosting their annual World Language Badminton Tournament to benefit World Central Kitchen (WCK). The event showcased both sporting skill and a commitment to global humanitarian aid.

A total of 49 teams and 98 competitors participated in the tournament, demonstrating widespread student involvement. Students contributed to the event by managing a bake sale, officiating matches, and volunteering in various capacities.

Bake Sale Sweetens the Deal for WCK

Following the badminton tournament, Garden City High School hosted a bake sale on Wednesday, with all proceeds directly donated to World Central Kitchen. This builds on the success of the badminton tournament, further amplifying the school’s support for the organization.

Tournament Results and Creative Flair

The tournament saw Jayden Lu and Sarah Shamail claim first place, while Seamus Ryan and Benjamin Wiese secured second. Adding a touch of fun to the competition, Brielle James and Kaitlyn Varghese were recognized for the most creative costume at the tournament.

Impact and Support for World Central Kitchen

The combined efforts of the badminton tournament and bake sale resulted in over $800 raised for World Central Kitchen. This donation will contribute to WCK’s mission of providing meals to those affected by humanitarian crises around the globe.
