Florida Municipality Expands Free Yoga Program for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities

The Florida Mayor’s Office, through the Directorate of Social Development, has launched its 2026 yoga classes, extending the program to include both older adults and individuals with disabilities in various locations throughout the department.

Promoting Inclusion and Well-being

The initiative aims to foster inclusion, well-being and social participation through accessible, free activities. Cecilia Serena, head of the Inclusion Area, emphasized the multifaceted benefits of the program. This week yoga classes began in several centers that serve people with disabilities. They have a exceptionally important value both for the motor part and for the intellectual and socialization part. she stated.

The program’s success relies on collaboration with local institutions. We greatly value that the institutions receive teachers there and from the area to be able to provide this service for free. People with disabilities will receive care in all the places where yoga is done or in a specific place. Each center receives it, has its turn and its group once a week, such as Recrear, the Down Association, Nélida Giacoya, Jacobo Civil, and we share the teaching hours with the Area for the Elderly. Serena explained.

Positive Impact on Seniors

Ana Clara Invernizzi, from the Senior Citizens Area, highlighted the appeal of the program to older residents. It is an attractive proposal for older people. Professors Jorge Gianello and Sebastián De Sierra have been accompanying this initiative for some years, framed in the Directorate of Social Development, and covers different populations. she noted.
