Empowering Actions: Record Breaking Attendance at Chioggia’s Women’s Self-Defense Course

The inaugural session of the new free women’s self-defense course in Chioggia, Italy, attracted an astonishing 40 participants, demonstrating a powerful demand for safety and personal autonomy initiatives. This course, coordinated by the Kodokan Judo Chioggia Study Center (CSK) with the patronage of the Municipality of Chioggia, is open to women of all ages and experience levels.

More Than Just Techniques: Master Voltolina’s Vision

“The essence of the course is not only to teach defense techniques – explains Maestro Denis Voltolina – but to convey confidence, serenity and the ability to manage fear. No one has the right to harass or abuse you because you are a woman. Physical confrontation must be the last alternative: the first defense is awareness and the ability to ask for help. Reporting an attack also means protecting other people.”

Words also shared by the Councilor for Sport, Riccardo Griguolo, who expressed the administration’s support:
“This course is a beautiful example of sport at the service of the community. Initiatives like this help women to feel stronger, more aware and freer. I thank Maestro Voltolina and the entire CSK Judo Chioggia for the commitment and sensitivity demonstrated: offering a free self-defense course throughout the year is a gesture of great civil and human value”.

Course Details and Participation

The course, held every Monday from 5 PM to 6 PM at the Don Milani gym, remains entirely free throughout 2025. Women interested in joining can simply show up during the indicated times and participate.
