Peruvian Sports Institute Expands Free Programs, Reaching Thousands Nationwide

IPD Academy Offers Broad Range of Disciplines

Hundreds of girls, boys and adolescents began free sports classes this Monday, March 16, at the IPD Academy – winter season. The program promotes the practice of more than 35 disciplines and encourages sports as part of a healthy lifestyle.

The initiative, promoted by the current management of the Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD), is reaching regions across the country, including Junín, Ica, Cusco, Tacna, Huánuco, Lambayeque, Arequipa, and Puno. Flexible schedules are designed to allow participants to balance school activities with sports practice.

Regional Sports Offerings

Specific sports offerings vary by region. For example, students in Tacna can train in athletics, judo, gymnastics, and field tennis. In Puno, workshops are available in volleyball, basketball, soccer, athletics, karate, taekwondo, boxing, table tennis, mixed martial arts, judo, and handball.

Pre-registration began on March 13 and remains open. Interested individuals can obtain more information from the Regional Sports Council (CRD) in their respective region.

The IPD Winter Academy offers a diverse range of sports, including basketball, boxing, soccer, volleyball, amateur wrestling, athletics, taekwondo, karate, weightlifting, gymnastics, field tennis, and judo.

Significant Growth in Participation

During the 2026 summer season, the IPD Academy reached 44,064 beneficiaries nationwide, with 19,500 participants from Metropolitan Lima.

The IPD also implemented the first-ever IPD Academy for Sports, providing workshops for 242 students in adapted athletics, basketball, and soccer for individuals with intellectual disabilities, as well as swimming and tennis for the same population. This expansion aims to increase access to sports for all Peruvians.

CEDE School Admissions

The Julia Sánchez Deza Experimental Sports Educational Center (CEDE), the only sports school in the country, which operates in inter-institutional coordination between the Peruvian Institute of Sports (IPD) and the Ministry of Education (MINEDU), maintains its 2026 admission process ongoing.

The school is looking for students from 4th grade of primary school to 2nd grade of secondary school, aged between 9 and 13 years, who demonstrate above-average physical and motor skills, as well as commitment to their academic training.
