Former Chocó soccer player Carlos Rentería Cuesta, known as ‘Caballito’ Rentería, today won, in the first instance, a million-dollar lawsuit against Atlético Nacional, because he was released from the club when he was injured.

Carlos ‘Caballito’ Rentería, brother of former forward Wason Rentería, was a scorer who had a sporting career between the years of 2006, when he debuted with good success in Real Cartagena, and 2015, when it was time to retire playing for Patriotas de Boyacá , due to a hip injury that affected him at that time.

In addition to that, he defended the colors of Huila, where he made a name for himself with goals and good performances, Nacional (he bought their sports rights in 2008), La Equidad and Junior de Barranquilla.

He stated that his career was affected by a hip injury, for which he did not receive proper treatment.

«While at the club, my injury aggravated and there were no necessary controls for my recovery. Despite the complaints, I only received painkillers and injections, and they ended up causing me very deep damage. And when they injected me, the pain went away, but it was hurting me a lot inside, and well, when it didn’t help, I “They took them out of the club,” Renteria said.

The judge highlighted that during the player’s involvement with Atlético Nacional the injury was not properly treated, which resulted in an incomplete recovery.

«When I was no longer useful to them, they kicked me out of football. “It was very difficult,” said Renteria, who described the persistent pain he still feels and the difficulties in carrying out the simplest tasks of daily life, such as walking, putting on clothes, tying his shoes.

Given the health problems, Rentería Cuesta decided in 2016 to file a lawsuit against the green club of Antioquia, for dismissing him while he was injured.

Regarding the aforementioned figure of close to one billion pesos, Rentería commented that he still needs to speak with his lawyer to find out all the details.
