Bradley Faces Hero’s Journey Amid Family Struggle With Leukemia
The Diagnosis That Changed Everything
Josh, diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2022, had to stay at the hospital with his parents. At the time, the family was in the middle of a professional football team’s campaign to qualify for the Champions League. They were relieved several weeks after extra testing that it was acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), although this wasn’t immediately apparent. Josh’s road to recovery was difficult, caused partly by aggressive treatments and a high risk of infection that necessitated isolation. The tension was palpable in the waiting room, where Bradley’s thoughts were
“We were worried sitting in the waiting room, thinking it was going to be bad because they had done a lot of testing.” [Bradley]
Physical Challenges for the Family
The journey through Josh’s treatment was especially taxing for his father. The emotional toll was significant, and Bradley particularly remembers the first 30 days as “heavy.” He also mentioned the challenges faced by Josh emotionally, and physically due to the aggressive treatments he was subjected to. In order to help protect Josh, he had to isolate himself from other people, which was very difficult for Josh to do.
