“On Friday morning, after an agreement with the chairman of the Steering Committee (ŘK) for Moravia, Pavle Nezval, we decided to cancel the entire weekend round across categories. The reason is clear – to protect the health of football players and the terrains that are already under water in Moravia. And given the forecast, it will be worse,” explained Petr Čech, chairman of the Sports and Technical Committee of the ŘK for Moravia. “The replacement date will be unified and it will be the weekend after the properly planned program of autumn competitions,” he specified.
On the basis of this decision, other associations, managing lower competitions, also joined. “Yes, we too resorted to mass postponement for the same reasons. Currently, most players and officials have other concerns than playing football. It’s a logical decision,” confirmed Stanislav Travenec, head of STK of the Zlín Regional Football Association. “The replacement date is the first weekend of November. The playoffs already planned here will be postponed by another week,” added Travenec.
Already yesterday – on Thursday – they decided on a mass postponement in the districts of Zlín and Vsetín, while on Friday morning the other two district unions in Uherské Hradiště and Kroměříž also joined. “Football is now on a different track, people have other concerns. We have to protect health and property in endangered areas in Moravia,” added František Miko, head of the OFS Uherské Hradiště.
Sports is just fun. This is also why competitions across sports and levels are currently seriously considering postponing weekend events across the board. And not only those that take place outside, but also in closed spaces. The reason is simple – people have completely different, existential concerns when the weather forecast is bad. In addition, many athletes at the amateur level are members of the rescue and fire brigades. And their hands and feet will be needed more in the field than on the sports fields!
“Yes, we are currently waiting for the decision of the union management, where it is a general postponement of all hockey matches of the weekend,” confirmed Libor Kožík, marketing manager for RI Okna Berany from Zlín.
The League Football Association has postponed the full schedule for Round 8 of the Chance League and Round 9 of the Chance National League
LFA Executive Director Tomáš Bárta: “The governing body of the competition has decided to postpone all matches of the 8th round of the Chance League and the 9th round of the Chance National League in view of the extraordinary situation in the entire territory of the Czech Republic, when extremely heavy rains and flooding are expected in some areas. This decision has been accepted in accordance with the National Competition Schedule, based on the unfavorable weather forecast, and above all for the safety of the players, fans and all other people involved in the organization of the matches. Safety is an absolute priority for the League Football Association in this situation. Another key factor in the decision was also social a responsibility that the LFA feels particularly strongly at these times. Members of the integrated rescue system, such as the police, firefighters and paramedics, who normally assist in the organization of the matches, will be essential in the following days and hours in the field to help the population and many powers.”
