Maroon securing fourth title, Rossi shines for Racing

A goalless draw against Racing Club on Wednesday night at the Estadio Cilindro de Avellaneda guaranteed Brazilian giants Flamengo their place in the Copa Libertadores final. The Rio de Janeiro club had won the first leg 1-0 at home, thanks to a goal from De Arrascaeta.

Flamengo Shows Resilience, Rossi Heroics

Flamengo held on despite playing a man down from the 55th minute, after Gonzalo Plata’s clumsy challenge on Racing’s Enzo Copetti saw him sent off. Thevisiting side’s Argentine goalkeeper Agustín Rossi pulled off a string of outstanding saves, including two one-on-ones, to thwart mehreren Fla attacks and keep his side in the contest.

The Maracanã side are now one step away from their fourth Copa Libertadores title, having previously triumphed in 1981, 2019, and 2022. Their final opponents will be determined by the outcome of the series between Palmeiras and Liga de Quito, with the latter currently holding a 3-0 lead after the first leg.

Controversial Decision Reversed

A contentious moment arrived in the 73rd minute when referee Piero Maza showed a red card to Racing’s Marcos Rojo. However, after consulting the VAR, the decision was reversed, and Rojo remained on the pitch.

Late Drama

In the closing stages, Racing pushed for an equalizer that would have taken the tie to extra time. However, Agustín Rossi, once again, was up to the challenge, magnificently keeping out Apogee Balboa’s header (85′) and Luciano Vietto’s fierce drive (91′).

Rossi was incredible tonight. He single-handedly kept us in the game.” – Racing Club manager, Fernando Gago
