It’s a huge sensation! Austria’s men are in the FINAL of the Flag Football World Championship, an Olympic sport! Head Coach Michael Salamon’s team defeated the flag superpower Mexico 36:32 in the semifinals and will face the even bigger superpower and clear tournament favorite USA in the final on Friday.
Head Coach Michael Salamon: “We are in the World Cup final, that’s unbelievable. I’m so proud of my boys, they went one better to reach the quarter-finals. We will challenge the USA to the end tomorrow!”

The tournament day so far…
Austria’s national teams are in the semifinals of the largest Flag Football World Championship of all time! There, the teams of Head Coach Michael Salamon (men) and Head Coach Robert Riedl (women) will face Mexico and the USA respectively. The women have also qualified for the 2025 World Games in China!
The semifinals will take place on Thursday afternoon.
The men took the lead in the morning, defeating Denmark in a thrilling match by a narrow margin of 29:24! Besides Austria, Switzerland is the only European country represented in the semifinals, the other two nations are Mexico and the USA.

In the afternoon, the women also moved into the round of the last four, where they are now the best European team! The team around quarterback Saskia Stribrny also secured qualification for the 2025 World Games in China.
