December arrives with music, celebrations and food. Being a host or hostess will always be a great challenge. Not only what matters is what will be served to eat or drink, but also other elements that transform the experience into a whole. Among them, the table stands out: the focal point when enjoying Christmas delicacies. We spoke with Amalia Isaza, decoration expert, who shared five ideas to beautify this space and make it memorable.
1. Check the cupboards
After defining the menu, a crucial step that determines what you will need, Amalia suggests taking an inventory of everything you already have at home. “Not everything has to be Christmas,” he explains while selecting, for the table in photo number one, tableware with tropical motifs. He points out that the narrative can emerge from the dishes themselves. In this case, he complements them with elements that evoke forests, such as pine cones and mushrooms, as well as a large bird and pine branches as a centerpiece. Red napkins add the perfect Christmas touch.

2. It’s time to shine
Christmas and New Year’s Eve are ideal for dusting off those objects that we do not use in our daily routine: cups, glasses, special cutlery, among others. “We can play and add different pieces, not everything has to be uniform,” says Amalia. However, he highlights the importance of knowing how to combine and, to achieve this, he insists on defining a concept. On table two, you can see an autumn-inspired Christmas, reflected in the plates, seeds and a baroque candelabra that serves as the centerpiece. It is also worth including figures of animals and elements that, in other contexts, do not usually occupy this space.
3. A Christmas for the whole family
It is essential to consider who will be at the table. The provisions for adults are very different from those prepared when there are children. In this case, the ideal is to go for vibrant colors and decorations that directly allude to the season. On table number three, Amalia combined Christmas plates with others with a simple design and a flat bottom, achieving a visual contrast that avoids saturation. For decorations, he suggests adding edible details, such as candy or gummies, that harmonize with the chosen color palette.
The classic style of this Christmas is complemented with less traditional details, such as mushrooms, which provide a natural and distinctive touch.
4. Classic always in fashion
There are those who prefer a classic table, and for this there are numerous options. Amalia recommends incorporating a centerpiece that attracts attention. “To create this piece, several aspects must be taken into account,” he comments. The first thing is the style of service: if the food will be placed in the center of the table, the decoration should be easy to remove. If, on the other hand, the dishes will be served from the kitchen, the centerpiece can remain throughout the meal, but it should not be too high so as not to interrupt the conversation.
5. The range of colors
Colors are another key aspect. While table number three opts for a playful style, on number five shades of green combined with white predominate. Venturing with natural elements such as eucalyptus branches can give excellent results. Small festive touches in contrasting colors are also a great idea. Finally, Amalia recommends: “Play with heights. “We want a dynamic table that does not look flat and is very festive.”
