From Junior Golfer to Social Impact Pioneer: The Inspiring Journey of José Ramón Carrasco
– From the teeing grounds to the boardrooms, José Ramón Carrasco’s life is a testament to passion, purpose, and perseverance. A Madrid native, Carrasco’s journey in the world of business and beyond bears the hallmarks of Seve Ballesteros, his grandfather, and the humble roots of golf that once shaped his summers.
Golf: The Spark That Ignited a Lifelong Passion
At the tender age of 15, Carrasco, the grandson of José Ramón de la Sierra – former president of Real Club de Pedreña (Santander), became a junior member. With a straight arm and lessons from golf legend Ramón Sota, Seve’s uncle, Carrasco was on his way to becoming a golfer.

From Golf to Business: A Shift in Swing
Years later, armed with an economics degree, Carrasco’s love for golf took a backseat as he navigated the business world. He joined the Red Cross, ultimately launching the Social Responsibility department of Proexport. Under his leadership, the first report on social responsibility in the agricultural sector was published, reaching over 80,000 children with fruit and vegetable promotion programs and donating surplus produce to associations like Cáritas.
The Return of Swing
Tempted by his brother-in-law and friend Pablo Gómez, Carrasco returned to the greens through Federation subsidized introductory courses at MontePríncipe. Today, he plays with his son, cherishing every hole-in-one and trophy they’ve earned together.
Golf and Social Impact: A Harmonious Swing
As current general director of Assido, Carrasco understands firsthand how golf enables the association to improve the quality of life of its 500 families. “Golf is more than a sport; it’s a community,” he asserts, encapsulating the essence of his dual dedication to business and beyond.
