The Chief of Staff of the President of Faso, Captain Martha Céleste Anderson Dekomwin MEDAH, representing the President of Faso, Head of State, chaired on Thursday, December 19, 2024 in Ouagadougou, the 21st ordinary session of the National Council for the Fight against AIDS and STIs (CNLS/IST).

This session was chaired by the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ, President of the National Council for the Fight against AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (CNLS/IST). The participants examined the results of the implementation of the National Multisectoral Plan to Combat AIDS (PNM) 2023.

It appears that thanks to the sustained commitment of the Head of State through the implementation of the strategy of free treatment and biological monitoring examinations as well as the mobilization of those involved in the fight against AIDS in our country, 86% of people who know their serological status are on antiretroviral (ARV) treatment, and 53% of them have an undetectable viral load.

Captain Martha Céleste Anderson Dekomwin MEDAH, on behalf of the Head of State, expressed his gratitude to the technical and financial partners and all stakeholders for their continued commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

In view of the achievements made, the representative of the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in our country, Aissata Guissé KASPAR praised the leadership of the Head of State in the response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

“Your efforts for the benefit of this fight in the complex security and humanitarian context honor Burkina Faso on the sub-regional and international scene,” she underlined. Aissata Guissé KASPAR noted the stabilization of seroprevalence at 0.6%, the result of accessibility to antiretroviral treatments, and State support for financing expenses linked to HIV/AIDS.

During this session, participants also identified programmatic inadequacies related to achieving targets for screening, initiation of ARV treatment, viral load suppression and resource mobilization.

Thus, the Chief of Staff of the President of Faso underlined the need to create a new dynamic in strengthening combined prevention measures, treatment of people living with HIV and improvement of human rights in Burkina Faso.

He insisted on the need to remove the bottlenecks which hinder the achievement of the “95-95-95” objectives in order to be there by 2030. The Chief of Staff of the President of Faso called on all stakeholders in a synergy of actions to put an end to the AIDS epidemic as a public health problem in Burkina Faso by 2030.

At the end of the work of this 21st session of the CNLS/IST, all stakeholders renewed their commitment and determination to fight against AIDS.
