A Legacy of Champions

Golf de Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, located just outside Paris, is a club with a rich history, most notably as the longtime home of the prestigious Trophée Lancôme. A new Figaro TV show, “Échappées golf,” recently opened the doors to the legendary club, showcasing its past and its forward-looking vision.

The club gained worldwide recognition for hosting the Lancôme Trophy for nearly thirty-five years, from 1970 to 2003. The tournament attracted the world’s elite players, including Spaniard Severiano Ballesteros, and cemented Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche’s place in golfing history.

Beyond the Lancôme Trophy

Even as the Trophée Lancôme remains a defining chapter, Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche has continued to host significant events. As club director Jean-Franck Burou notes, We organized the amateur world championships and above all, last year, the French Open. So, it was almost a return to basics for our members who had experienced the Lancôme years.”

A Club for All

Today, the club boasts 1,400 members who enjoy a comprehensive sporting and social experience. Director Burou emphasizes the club’s commitment to its members, stating, It’s a family club, sporty and elegant. And we really want to continue to ensure that our members (…) find themselves a little bit at home here. Whether in sporting terms, with the quality of the courses, of course – for us, This represents essential -, but as well in terms of the quality of all our services.”

The club offers a variety of amenities, including a children’s club, a golf school, a swimming pool, and even a bridge club, all set within a picturesque, environmentally conscious landscape. We have signed up to the Golf for Biodiversity label,” Burou proudly states.

Investing in the Future of Golf

Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche is actively nurturing the next generation of golfing talent. Jacques Henry, president of the club’s sports commission, highlighted the emergence of promising young players. We have tremendous luck, with a generation of young players who are extraordinary. I think of Oscar Couilleau, who everyone knows (near the 60^e place in the world rankings, Editor’s note)I also think of Lev Grinberg, who has just joined us and who is among the best amateurs in the world.”

The club has established a team to support these young professionals, including Charlotte Liautier and Paul Franquet.

A Challenging Course

The course itself presents a demanding test for golfers of all levels. Hole number 18, a par 3, is particularly noteworthy, having been the site of American Michael Kim’s victory during the recent French Open. It features a narrow green that demands precision.
