As expected, Mali achieved a double at the Afrobasket U18 Pretoria 2024, in South Africa, by winning both finals (girls and boys) this Saturday, September 14, against Nigeria and Cameroon respectively. This double competition began on September 1. For the girls’ final, the Aiglonnes, defending champions and already eight times winners in ten finals played, faced a very tough Nigerian team, which had eliminated Egypt, one of the favorites of the competition. Coach Sory DiakitĂ©’s players were jostled in the first moments of the match, but they finally managed to win 76 – 56, thus retaining their title won in Madagascar in 2022. This is Mali’s ninth title for the girls in 17 editions. As for the Aiglons, they faced Cameroon, a difficult opponent that they had already beaten in the group stage. Seeking revenge, the Cameroonians gave the Malian team a hard time, who had to wait until the last seconds to take the upper hand (60 – 51). The Aiglons thus regained their crown lost in 2022 in Madagascar. This is their third title in 22 editions.
