Tatis Jr. took advantage of a momentary lapse by Cuban pitcher Cionel Perez and stealthily stole home plate, extending the San Diego Padres’ lead to 5-2 and securing their victory in that game.

On that memorable day, the San Pedro de Macorís native had an exceptional performance at the plate, recording three hits in four at-bats. He also drove in a run and scored two others, including the one resulting from his daring theft of home plate.
This steal was one of the 29 successful base steals Tatis Jr. completed this year, placing him second on his team behind Korean player Ha-Seong Kim, who stole 38 bases. Tatis Jr. also ranked third in home runs (25), hits (148), and runs batted in (78). Additionally, he led the San Diego Padres in doubles (33) and finished the season with a batting average of .257.
Despite individual successes, the season ended on a bittersweet note as the San Diego Padres failed to qualify for the postseason. Despite a strong 20-7 record in the final month of the regular season, their overall record stood at 80-82.
