Alonso Tops FP1 in Singapore, Albon Aims for Redemption in Night Session
Fernando Alonso placed himself among the frontrunners for the 2025 F1 Singapore Grand Prix, topping Free Practice 1. This is the first time since FP2 at the 2024 Canadian GP that the Spaniard has topped a session. “It feels great to be back at the top,” said Alonso (“Fernando Alonso heads into Free Practice 2”). The McLarens, Alonso and teammate Oscar Piastri, dominated the session, followed closely by Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, and Lewis Hamilton. Even Lando Norris, who will start his 150th GP this weekend, managed to outperform the likes of Sergio Perez and George Russell. As nightfall descended on the Marina Bay Street Circuit, attention turned to Alex Albon, who will be eager to make up for lost time. A brake fire early in FP1 cost the Williams driver the entire session. “I’m frustrated, but it’s part of the game,” said Albon (“Alex Albon will be hoping to make up for lost time”). Albon will be looking to turn his fortunes around in FP2 under the Singapore lights, where he finished strongly last year.
