About Panathinaikos Actor:
Panathinaikos, one of the most important teams not only in Greece but also in European basketball, is one of the most successful teams in the EuroLeague Final Four season, which started playing in 1988. Panathinaikos won six EuroLeague championships between in 1996 and 2011, five of which were won by Zeljko Obradovic.
Panathinaikos began to make its mark in Greek basketball with 12 domestic victories between 1967 and 1984. After years of hiatus, the Athens team reached the top of Europe in 1996. In 1996, Panagiotis Giannakis , Dominique Wilkins and Fragiskos Alvertis combined to bring the EuroLeague trophy to the Panathinaikos museum, the first European championship for a Greek team. Then a few years later, a new series of success began for Panathinaikos under the management of Zeljko Obradovic.
In 2000, PAO won the second EuroLeague cup with Obradovic, defeating Maccabi in the final in Thessaloniki, and in 2002, they achieved a historic victory over Kinder Bologna, the only championship won by an away team against home team. Panathinaikos won the fourth EuroLeague trophy by defeating CSKA by two points in Athens in 2007. In 2009, this final was repeated in Berlin and the winner was Obradovic’s Panathinaikos, with a two point difference.
In the 2010-2011 season, Panathinaikos, under the leadership of Dimitris Diamantidis, eliminated the eventual champion Barcelona in the play-off round, despite the disadvantage of the field, and reached the Final Four, and achieved the sixth victory in the EuroLeague by defeating Maccabi in the final. PAO, who missed out on the Final Four in the semi-finals in 2012, parted ways with Zeljko Obradovic at the end of this season.
Panathinaikos, which was just one win away from the Final Four in 2013 and 2014, won the league and the cup twice in a row in the Greek League. PAO, who won the Greek Cup in 2014-2015, played in the league final and made the EuroLeague Play-offs for the fifth time in a row, did not avoid being eliminated by CSKA in the Play-off round.
PAO, eliminated in the EuroLeague Play-off round by Baskonia in 2016, Fenerbahçe in 2017, and Real Madrid in 2018 and 2019, reached a happy ending in this league for the 38th time with the Greek championship League in 2019.
Yoncas finished 2021 with the Greek League and Greek Cup championships. In the same season, Panathinaikos ranked 16th in the EuroLeague with 11 wins and 23 losses.
Our opponent remains far from the EuroLeague Play-offs in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.
After a long break, the Greek representative reached the EuroLeague championship in the 2023-24 season, and also managed to achieve a happy ending in the Greek League.
The Panathinaikos museum has 40 Greek League, 7 EuroLeague, 20 Greek Cup and one Intercontinental Cup championship.
