Breaking: New Sketch Released in 2016 Pokémon Go Murder of College Baseball Prospect
FBI Aims to Identify Suspect Nearly a Decade After Cold Case Murder
The FBI has unveiled a new sketch of a second person of interest in the 2016 murder of Calvin Riley, a promising college baseball prospect who was gunned down while playing Pokémon Go in San Francisco. The shocking development brings new hope to solving this cold case, nearly a decade after Riley’s tragic death.
The Crime and the New Lead
On August 6, 2016, 20-year-old Riley, a standout pitcher for the San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs, was playing the hit mobile game with a friend at Aquatic Park around 9:50 p.m. when a single bullet fatally struck him. Authorities stated that two people were spotted in the area, and Riley’s friend reportedly noticed someone watching them from a hilltop overlooking the park.
The FBI believes the new suspect, described as a bearded, bald man with a chunky face and glasses, was involved in the murder. A reward of up to $25,000 is now offered for information leading to his identification.
The Suspect and the Crime Scene
The suspect was allegedly caught on video at the crime scene. The FBI subsequently identified a first male suspect believed to be the driver of a vehicle parked nearby with a blonde female, estimated to be 20 to 30 years old. Two suspicious vehicles—a white 2015 Hyundai Sonata and a dark-colored Audi A3 Wagon—were also tracked down by investigators in the area.
The Victim’s Legacy and Family’s Plight
Riley’s life was cruelly cut short before he could realize his dream of playing in the Major Leagues, particularly for his beloved Boston Red Sox. His father, Sean, praised the FBI’s relentless efforts to solve the case and hopes the new sketch will bring Calvin’s killers to justice.
“I think they’ve, they’ve done an outstanding job,” Sean said. “It’s been a lot. I mean, it has been nine years.”
Riley’s murder not only claimed the life of a promising athlete but also deeply affected his family and friends, many of whom struggle to cope with their loss.
