For months, if not years, the topic of NBA expansion seems to have gained momentum. If the latter is still relevant, commissioner Adam Silver put a little brake during a recent meeting between managers and owners of the NBA.
“We’re not ready yet.”
This is what Adam Silver answered yesterday during his press conference when he was asked about the topic of NBA expansion.
Adding new franchises is one of the big issues on the League commissioner’s table, and some cities – like Seattle and Las Vegas – are already in pole position to get a team in the coming years. But the big bald man indicated that the topic was barely discussed at the meeting of the Board of Governors this week, and that it will be discussed later in the season.
“We’ve told our board that we want to deal with this issue at this time, but we’re not ready yet. But I think there’s some interest in the process, and I don’t think we’re at the point of making specific decisions yet. about markets or even frankly about expansion.–Adam Silver
NBA expansion is still in the League’s primary plans, but we may have to wait a little longer than expected. The topic should be released in future discussions during the 2024-25 season, especially since the big issue of TV rights is now about to be resolved.
“I’ve said before, over time, organizations have to evolve. That’s a good thing. But it’s a bit complicated in terms of selling parts of the League, what it means for having television relationships, etc. What we are saying to the interested parties is that we thank them for their interest and we will get back to them.” -Adam Silver
See you in a few months for real progress?

Adam Silver will not talk much at the NBA board of governors meeting today about the expansion because the league is not yet ready to do it. Plan to do it later in the season, he said.
Silver warned: “It’s a bit complicated to sell equity in the league.”
