Today, the Danish youth national team had two matches at the World Youth Championship (UVM) in Nanchang, China. This applied to the men’s doubles Philip Kryger Boe/Jakob Clausen Jessen and the women’s doubles Amanda Aarrebo Petersen/Maria Højlund Tommerup [16] to qualify for the 1/8 finals to be played tomorrow.
21-16, 26-28, 16-21
First up today was the men’s doubles Philip Kryger Boe/Jakob Clausen Jessen, who met the Indonesian men’s doubles Anselmus Breagit Fredy Prasetya/Pulung Ramadhan [3].
The match was tight, as the two men’s doubles were insanely close throughout most of the match.
– Overall, they were close to delivering the biggest sensation of the tournament, says U19 national coach Jonas Lyduch.
The Danish men’s doubles took the first set 21-16, which set the stage for a frighteningly close second set, which the Indonesians took 28-26 and despite Boe and Jessen fighting in the third set, it unfortunately ended with a 21-16 victory to Indonesia.
– Yes, of course you suddenly have a feeling afterwards where you are extremely disappointed when you are so close. It’s probably the kind of match that you have to try to evaluate as if you’ve won it, because it’s not the 2-3 balls that we don’t win that make the whole thing look bad. for it to be good, says Jonas Lyduch.
21-19, 24-22
Next, it concerned the women’s doubles Amanda Aarrebo Petersen/Maria Højlund Tommerup [16]who faced American women’s doubles Audrey Chang/Ella Lin.
Before the match, Lyduch said that he had hoped that it would be a Danish victory, but that in the team match tournament they had a bad experience with one of the American women.
– We didn’t go in and were stone sure of winning, and the girls were also a little nervous because they could probably feel that it was a good chance to play in the third round, says Jonas Lyduch.
But despite nerves and worries, the women’s doubles Amanda Aarrebo Petersen/Maria Højlund Tommerup won [16] the victory home with a victory in two sets of 21-19 and 24-22 respectively.
– Even if it is close, we deserve to win. We were a little better than the Americans were, so I would have been a little tired if we had lost, but luckily we didn’t, says Lyduch.
