At Mets Trade, the specialized electronics and software division showed its vision on electrification. With the utmost attention to autonomy and driving pleasure
Increasingly stringent environmental regulations and emission standards around the world are driving the shift to electrification in the marine sector as well. A trend, already visible in shipyards and in many boat builders, which is also confirmed by the growing demand for eco-sustainable solutions from shipowners. Bosch Engineering intends to play a key role in this change, offering its solutions for yachts and pleasure boats, with components and solutions made available to manufacturers in the sector. At Mets Trade in Amsterdam – the no. 1 trade fair in the professional sector, with around 1,500 exhibitors – it presented its Edsp platform. It includes Bosch components, such as the electric motor, inverter and transmission, as well as requirements and specifications for other key elements such as the high-voltage battery, charger and wiring. The Edsp also significantly reduces development times for series use and offers builders a complete, pre-built solution that is cost-effective and easy to install on recreational yachts. It must be said that Bosch made its debut in the nautical sector two years ago by presenting an electrification kit.

Manufacturers can also receive individual components to integrate into systems even independently, which include a Bosch electric motor with optional gearbox, an inverter with integrated DC/DC converter and a control unit. The engines are available in two power levels of 90 and 140 kW. The 400V permanent magnet synchronous motor design features high power density and excellent efficiency. The inverter includes a powerful DC/DC converter for the 12V on-board power system. The transmission stands out for its efficiency, silence and low maintenance requirements. Thanks to the compact dimensions, it is possible to integrate the components even in narrow engine compartments, or as a retrofit solution in existing applications. The reduced overall weight of the components allows the yacht’s maximum autonomy to be increased while the dynamic behavior of the electric engine finally offers a new level of driving pleasure.
