A larger and more sustainable fleet for Atac and Atm, the municipal transport companies of Roma and of Milano. Just under 600 electric buses are expected to be in service soon in the two largest Italian cities. 411 “E-Way” electric buses commissioned to Iveco – winner of the public tender announced by the Municipality of Rome – will arrive in the Capital, designed to transport millions of pilgrims who will be added to the normal flow of tourists. The supply includes 396 Iveco E-Way 12-meter buses and 15 articulated buses of 18 meters, the first of which will enter service by the end of 2024. The range of electric buses will be completed by 2026, while in parallel the installation of 331 charging points in the depots proceeds after the award of the tender in June. In the first quarter of 2025 the first E-Ways ordered by the Municipality of Milanowhich aims to electrify 50% of the ATM fleet by 2026. 153 12-meter electric buses are envisaged in the tender, which includes their complete maintenance for the first 10 years of service.

Iveco e-Way: features

L’Iveco E-Way It is offered in four length variants: 9.5 meters, 10.7 meters, 12 meters and an 18-meter articulated bus. The first three can count on a Siemens electric motor with 310 kW/420 hp and 3,000 Nm of torque, while the 18-meter articulated truck relies on the 375 kW/510 hp electric motor with 4,000 Nm of torque. They are powered by a 69 kWh Nmc (nickel, manganese and cobalt) accumulator, made up of 5 to 9 cell packs compared to the model. The maximum estimated autonomy is 250 km with a single battery charge. They can be recharged in the depot via the traditional Combo 2 Css connector. The 12-meter E-Way is also designed for rapid charging via pantograph, capable of restoring up to 450 kW in approximately 5-20 minutes. The ground clearance of the new generation of E-Way has been reduced to 3,300 mm. Vehicle dynamics and stability are ensured by the Ebs with Abs and Asr systems, the electronic systems that ensure vehicle stability in any condition, even in the most critical driving situations. The 9.5-meter, 10.7-meter and 12-meter versions also comply with the Ece R66.02 rollover regulation.
