The Hamamatsu house is at the Milanese show with two juicy new products, an enduro and a 400 cc supermotard made on the same technical platform
Suzuki presents itself at Eicma 2024 with two totally new motorcycles that share the same engine-frame platform, the enduro DR-Z4S and the supermotard DR-Z4SMmodels tasked with attacking two different segments of the market and in any case characterized by very distinct personalities. What they have in common is one engine four-stroke single-cylinder 398 cc e 38 Cv and a refined chassis, with the former sporting long-travel suspension for the circles 21″ front and 18″ rear and the second with 17″ rims and a strong propensity for competition. The prices and the date of arrival in dealerships.
slim and functional design
—
Both the DR-Z4S and DR-Z4SM come with a design modern and functional, with a distinctive horizontal line along the sides that crosses the bike from the front mudguard to the tail. The carenature the fluid shapes give both a harmonious and contemporary appearance, but the whole thing has been designed to facilitate the rider’s freedom of movement in the saddle without lowering the center of gravity too much. The two models have optical groups full LED, with high and low beams integrated into a single headlight, while behind the fairing there is a LCD instrumentation of new concept. Already known colors: the DR-Z4S will initially be available in “Phoenix Yellow” and “London Grey”, the DR-Z4SM in “Los Angeles Grey” and “San Francisco White”.
Single cylinder engine
—
Il motor that equips the two new Suzukis is a single cylinder to 4 times from 398 cc dry sump, with 4-valve twin-cam distribution and liquid cooling. Among its particularities is the double candle in the combustion chamber which promises greater efficiency, better acceleration response and a more stable idle. Taking advantage of the ride-by-wire and electronic injection, this unit can express a maximum power of 38 Cv at 8,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 37 Nm at 6,500 rpm, with a delivery curve that the manufacturer defines as “regular and sustained right from the lowest revs”. Both are therefore within the reach of A2 license holders. The change It has 5 speeds and features the Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) which softens the clutch and eliminates bouncing when downshifting. The capacity of reservoir it is the same, 8.7 litres, but the data is slightly different consumptionwith the S declaring 28.4 km/l on the average WMTC cycle and the SM 29.4 km/l.
No frills cycling
—
In terms of cyclingthe two DR-Zs are quite similar to each other. The framework is the same for both, consisting of a chassis double steel beam together with a swingarm and an aluminum rear subframe. The suspensions they are designer Kyb and consist of an inverted fork and shock that boast more travel on the DR-Z4S. The latter also features spoked rims coupled with semi-knobby tyres, with asaddle height di 920 mm and 300 mm di ground light. The DR-Z4S has slightly lower and wider handlebars and further back footrests to assume a riding position more suitable for high speeds, with the saddle going down to 890 mm and a ground clearance of 260 mm. Both are equipped with an effective braking system, with the S sporting a 270 mm front disc I count the 310 mm of the SM. At the rear we find the same 240 mm disc. The declared curb weight figure is also understandably divergent: 151 kg for the enduro, 154 kg for the supermotard.

Also from the point of view ofelectronics on board, the two new Suzuki proposals on display at Eicma are largely comparable. In fact, both are equipped with the now familiar suite Suzuki Intelligent Ride System which in their case includes, among other things, three driving modes (all at full power), the traction control disengageable on 2 levels, Abs dual channel and in turn disengageable and the Easy Start System for easier starting, in addition to the aforementioned electronic accelerator. Alongside the DR-Z4S and DR-Z4SM, at the Suzuki stand at Eicma 2024 there is theentire 2025 range of the Hamamatsu company, including the prototype of a hydrogen Burgman and the Gsx-R1000r of Team Yoshimura Sert Motul, winner of the EWC Endurance World Championship.
