Samberg’s toughness didn’t go unnoticed by his teammates. Cole Perfetti praised his resilience, saying, "He’s nuts. He’s tough. He’s a tough guy. That was a hard shot and it’s crazy that he was skating (Tuesday)."
Samberg downplayed the injury, attributing his quick recovery to the nature of his job. "It’s part of the job to block shots. But you have all this padding, and somehow it always seems to find that little spot that you don’t have (any) padding. But you’re just hoping for the best that it hits you in the right spot."
Looking ahead
The Jets will close out the regular season on Wednesday against the Anaheim Ducks (6 p.m., Sportsnet, Sportsnet 360). They are expected to open the Stanley Cup playoffs on either Saturday or Sunday, with Ehlers’ status for the first round uncertain.
