The mystery of the title is solved fairly quickly. It is neither a tropical disease nor a character from Aristophanes. We call eephus or even “rainbow” a type of pitch in baseball: a curved ball which resembles a slow ball, in other words a feint, intended to destabilize the batter, who will not fail to be surprised by a trajectory and a unusual speed. The same fate and the same pleasant disorientation are predicted for the viewer of this atmospheric film whose plot would fit on a stadium ticket.
