New Delhi: DLF Public School, Ghaziabad won one gold and two silver medals from the tennis courts on the sixth day of the SFA Championship 2024 Delhi, while the final day of the event also saw competition in the racket event. DLF duo Shaurya/Granth won the gold medal in the Boys Under 14 category, while Sadhya Kapoor and Shaurya Singh won the silver medals in the Girls Under 14 and Boys Singles respectively.

At the event, Commonwealth Games 2010 swimmer Tarun Tokas won the competition with his presence. Tokas also represented India at the 2007 World University Games. He won medals at the 2012 World Games and was part of India’s camp at the London Olympics 2012. He reviewed the SFA Championship and called for sports to be made a compulsory part of school curriculum.

Tokas said, “It is a great initiative that many athletes from Delhi NCR are participating in. The name Sports for All (SFA) also reflects their intention to bring together many schools with the aim of developing sports at the grassroots level.”

“I believe that education, swimming or any sport should be an important part of school education because it helps to keep the mind and body healthy. My message to my fellow parents is that their children should always participate in sports so that they can grow up well.”

On the sixth day, school athletes also competed for medals in Tokas’ favorite sport, swimming, with Pathways World School, Gurugram taking the top spot with six gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals. Meanwhile, medals were also distributed in badminton, shooting and yoga.
