The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, received today, at the Real Casa de Correos, headquarters of the regional Government, the president of the International Paralympic Committee (ICC), Andrew Parsons, who visited the capital. The meeting was also attended by the president of the Spanish Paralympic Committee, Alberto Durán, and the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports, Mariano de Paco Serrano. Díaz Ayuso attended the 17th Paralympic Games in Paris this summer to support the 36 athletes in Madrid competing in this sporting event. Seven of the athletes participated in team events and 29 individually, with a result of 14 metals (2 gold, 3 silver and 9 bronze).
The regional Executive has several programs to promote the practice of physical activity of people with disabilities, such as Institutes Promoting Physical Activity and Sports, which are assigned to inclusive schools and this year 217 public and 1,182 are part schoolchildren. In the same way, it also promotes the initiative, Activate Your Capacity, made in collaboration with Madrid disability and uni-sports federations in judo, canoeing, karate, hockey or handball, based on the launch of adapted centers aimed at encouraging those student with disabilities. to practice these disciplines.
