Just days after being eliminated from his quarterfinal match in Washington, Denis Shapovalov has spoken about this tragic event. The Canadian took the opportunity on his websites to give a statement in which he was grateful that his principles and prize money of the competition is not denied, but they are strongly opposed to the heavy fines they have to face. “It has been a very stressful time for me. I am surprised and disappointed by the decision to ban me from playing with Ben in Washington. It was not good for me, for him or for anyone who was there watching the game. I immediately submitted my appeal to the ATP and I am satisfied and thankful for the quick decision to restore my points and prize money. “I have to say, however, that I do not agree with the heavy fine they gave me, which is more than half of what I won last week, and I will continue to fight against it.”he wrote

We all work very hard. Our tennis careers are our lives and should not be marred by arbitrary and unnecessary decisions. I also hope that the ATP can establish better rules to protect players from abusive fans. “I also want to take this moment to thank the players who have publicly defended me in the press and on television.”he added.
