De Minaur Makes ATP Tour History in Rotterdam: Third Final in a Row

Alex de Minaur etched his name in the history books of the ABN AMRO Open on Saturday, becoming the first player to reach the final in three consecutive editions.

In perhaps his most challenging victory yet, the eighth-ranked Australian defeated uber-talented Frenchman Ugo Humbert 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals, saving all ten break points he faced in a controlled and tactical display.

De Minaur’s Rotterdam Resurgence

This is De Minaur’s fifth consecutive quarter-final appearance at the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam, equaling Roger Federer’s record (2001-2005), and his third straight semi-final, matching another local legend, Tom Okker (1974-1976).

“I’m really proud of how I’ve been playing this week,” De Minaur said post-match. “There were times when I had to dig deep, but I kept my calm and found a way to win.”

Road to the Final

The Australian’s path to the final was no walk in the park. He overcame Dutchman Arthur Fils in the first round, tenacious veteran Stan Wawrinka in the second, and hometown favorite Botic van de Zandschulp in the quarters.

Against Humbert, De Minaur overcame the Frenchman’s aggressive game plan and secured his sixth career victory against Humbert, moving one step closer to his first ATP 500 title, having won three of the four encounters this season.

The Final Showdown

De Minaur will face the in-form Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final. The second-seeded Canadian has not dropped a set en route to the championship match and has won an impressive nine consecutive matches.

augmentation, the Canadian outclassed Alexander Bublik 6-1, 6-2 in the other semi-final. He met De Minaur in the 2022 final, which was won by the Canadian.

“It’s a great matchup,” Auger-Aliassime said. “It’s been a while since I’ve been in a final. I’m really looking forward to it, and I’m going to give everything I have to win.”

Did you know?

Alex de Minaur has already proven himself as a title favorite, having won the ‘s-Hertogenbosch Open as the number one seed in 2024. He’ll carry that confidence to the final against Auger-Aliassime.
