Third Italian medal at the Cycling World Championships in Zurich, after Ganna’s silver and Affini’s bronze in the time trial. Credit goes to the mixed time relay team led by coach Marco Velo, composed of Filippo Ganna, Edoardo Affini, Mattia Cattaneo, Elisa Longo Borghini, Gaia Realini and Soraya Paladin, who won the bronze medal 8” from Australia, gold, which preceded Germany by just 85/100. The Australian team was composed of Matthews, O’Connor and Vine among the men, Grace Brown (Olympic and world champion in the time trial), Roseman-Gannon and Chapman among the women.

The route (53.7 km and a difference in altitude of 900 meters), with start and finish at Sechselautenplatz, included one lap for each trio (male and female). At half-way, the Italians had finished in second place in 33’52”11 (average 47.655 km/h) 8” behind Australia and with a 14-point advantage over Germany. The Germans then recovered a good 22” in 29 km on the three Italians in the second part.

Tomorrow the road trials start with the races reserved for the Junior category, from Uster to Zurich. The women will start at 10 am and will face a 73.6 km course with 972 meters of altitude difference, while the men will start at 2.15 pm, 127.2 km of running and 1913 meters of altitude difference. Defending the blue colors, in the women’s race, there will be Eleonora La Bella, Silvia Milesi, Chantal Pegolo and Giada Silo trained by coach Paolo Sangalli, in the men’s race Andrea Bessega, Leonardo Consolidani, Lorenzo Mark Finn, Cristian Remelli and Enea Sambinello of coach Edoardo Salvoldi.
