Cus Siena Judo Athletes Compete at Italian National Championships

The Cus Siena Judo team recently participated in the national finals of the Italian Under 18 championships, second category events held in Leinì, Turin. The team sent six athletes who had qualified through national ranking or regional wins.

Strong Performances in Turin

The competition saw several Cus Siena athletes deliver noteworthy performances. On Saturday, Guglielmo Sensi (up to 46 kg) was the first to take the mat. He secured victories over Umbria’s Formiconi before the time limit and then defeated Rome’s Messina by wazari. He ultimately lost to Di Filippo, but fought back in the repechage, winning against Giannini before being stopped by Galeotti, who later qualified for third place.

Up to 66kg Category Showcases Depth

Four athletes from the Sienese team competed in the up to 66 kg category, including two seeded competitors. Alvise Gallo lost his first match despite a strong showing, while Daniele Gabbriellini was defeated by Georgiani of Rome, who went on to win the competition. Gabbriellini was unable to regain momentum, winning against Salzano from Campania before losing to Cavassa.

Leonardo Benza also faced a challenging draw, winning against Cazzola of Trieste with an ippon before being eliminated by Samkharadze of Iacovazzi. Elia Domenichini had the most successful run, securing victories against Dorillo and Leocata before facing Zamolo. Despite a setback, Domenichini continued with wins against Cincotta, Deserti, and Lorusso, ultimately falling to Maggi of Turin in a battle for a podium finish.

Sassetti Competes in Women’s Division

Adelaide Sassetti was the sole female competitor for the Sienese team. She began with a decisive victory over Colli of Rome, but was unfortunately defeated in the second round by Motfolea, also of Rome.
