The Popular Party of Culleredo has denounced the use that the municipal government will make of the funds from the Social Works and Services Plan (POS Social) of the Provincial Council of A Coruña, by allocating almost all of them to current expenses instead of projects that directly benefit the neighbors.
During the last municipal plenary session, the popular voted in favor of the approval of these funds, which amount to nearly 150,000 euros, but their spokesperson, Izaskun García, criticized that 130,000 euros will be used for hiring personnel and only 20,000 for the purchase of computer equipment. “We voted in favor out of responsibility towards the neighbors, because we will never reject financing for Culleredo, but we ask for more responsible management of those funds,” said García.
The popular leader highlighted the need to prioritize initiatives that have a direct impact on citizens. “The Social Works and Services Plan must be invested in responding to urgent shortcomings such as the lack of an early care service, the reopening of the supervised apartment, the reinforcement of the Women’s Information Center (CIM) and the increase in scholarships and direct aid to families with the most needs,” he noted.
Although they recognize the lack of personnel in the area of social policy and other municipal departments, the PP considers that this deficit should be covered with the ordinary budgets of the Council and not by resorting to extraordinary funds such as the POS, which are of an exceptional nature. “These funds are designed to address specific and urgent needs of citizens, not to supply poor budget planning”García added.
The Popular Party called on the municipal government to reorient the management of these resources and prioritize social policies that really improve the quality of life of the neighbors.
