Alsace reigns supreme at Regional Sports Gala

The Alsace region sparkled at the recent Regional Sports Gala, held to celebrate the achievements of local athletes, teams, and contributions to sports. Alsace walked away with multiple awards, further cementing its standing as a powerhouse in regional sports.

Alsace Sports Personality of the Year

The top honor of the night went to Marlene Harwood, a stellar footballer from FC Strasbourg. Known for her exceptional skills and relentless drive, Harwood has been instrumental in her team’s recent successes. Accepting the award, she dedicated it to her teammates and coaches, saying, “None of this would be possible without their support.”

Team of the Year

The coveted Team of the Year award was presented to Volley-Ball Association Alsace. The team’s remarkable consistency and growth in the past year, culminating in a national bronze medal, made them unanimous favorites. Coach Papillon attributed their success to “hard work, team spirit, and a deep sense of community.”

Lifetime Achievement Award

A poignant moment of the evening was the posthumous awarding of the Lifetime Achievement Award to late long-distance runner, Jean-Pierre Bernard. Despite his passing earlier this year, Bernard’s enduring impact on regional running and athletics was celebrated with a standing ovation. His widow, Marie Bernard, accepted the award, saying, “Jean-Pierre would have been honored. His love for running and dedication to mentoring young athletes will forever be his legacy.”
