The Spaniard posted a photo on social media on a bike in Miami with his former rival, still active at 39 years old. Together they created great duels between 2012 and 2017: 7 great laps each for Alberto and Chris

Together again, side by side. Alberto Contador and Chris Froome are back riding together. The opportunity presented itself with a training session in Miami, in the United States, together with some mutual friends. This reunion between cycling stars was made known by the former Spanish champion, who retired in 2017. Contador shared a photo together with the Briton from the Israel-Premier Tech team. The description used for the post, later taken up by Froome himself, is emblematic: “Remembering old battles”. A topic that Alberto and Chris could talk about for perhaps days. There were many duels on the roads of Italy, France and Spain between 2012 and 2017.

Contador-Froome was a clash of styles. The Spaniard was elegant and seemed to dance on the pedals, swaying with his own rhythm while taking violent shots. Almost always in the saddle, the Briton was recognizable for his wide elbows and agile pedaling. So fast that it seemed supersonic when Chris accelerated, like on Mont Ventoux in 2013. On that occasion he overtook Contador, flying towards the first Tour de France. Another challenge was also impressive, again in France, but at the 2014 Tour of Dauphiné: on the Col du Beal, the Spaniard responded to five very hard attacks from his rival, who then won the second stage in a sprint. In the same year Alberto took revenge at the Vuelta di Spagna: his hits in La Farrapona and Puerto de Ancares were devastating.

palmares

Dualism has produced great battles and enriched their respective bulletin boards. Alberto started winning in 2007 and, ten years later, his complete palmares included two Giri d’Italia (2008 and 2015), two Tours (2007 and 2009) and three Vueltas (2008, 2012 and 2014). Seven Grand Tours just like those of Froome, still active at 39 years old. The Briton boasts four Tours (2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017), two Vueltas (2011 and 2017) and a memorable triumph on the Italian roads of the Giro d’Italia in 2018 with the feat on the dirt road of Colle delle Finestre.
