He was 48 years old, he participated in the Giro d’Italia three times: he was stabbed in the neck

The former world junior cycling champion (on track, in the points race at the 1994 World Championships) Marlon Perez was murdered in Colombia. The former athlete, 48, was stabbed in the neck in El Carmen de Viboral in Antioquia, where he lived. According to local media reconstructions, Perez was walking his dog when he was attacked: a fight ensued which ended with the stab wound. Perez was rescued and transported to the nearest hospital but there was nothing that could be done. Perez had begun his international career in the Selle Italia team, and had participated in three Giri d’Italia (2004, 2005 and 2008). He also represented the colors of Colombia three times at the Olympics in Atlanta (1996), Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004), as well as at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. The Antioquia police, with a statement on the “X” social network, informed that the alleged perpetrator has already been identified.
